In the year 1955, Poul Kjærholm designed the PK22 Chair. A low-hanging leather design chair with a steel frame. The steel frame of the PK22 is stainless and the model is derived from his graduation assignment the "Element" chair, this design chair was also called the PK25.

Kjærholm is known among other things by the material he used, steel. This is in contrast to other Danish designers from the same period as Kjærholm.

The PK22 Chair is available in suede, cane (rattan), canvas or leather.

Designer PK22

The designer of the PK22 Poul Kjærholm. He was born in 1929 Østervrå, in Denmark. He died in 1980. Poul Kjærholm was a good furniture architect with a lot of experience. In the year 1948 Poul started working as a pupil of a furniture maker. He learned the trade here and gained a lot of experience. He studied architecture at the Danish school Arts of Crafts in Copenhagen.

Poul Kjærholm used industrial materials and manners and around the year 1960 this brought new talent to the design world with fresh, elegant and sleek unused styles. Kjærholm distinguished itself from other designers because he used steel instead of the often used wood. Yet he also used many natural materials in his designs, such as canvas and leather, but also rope and rattan (not to be confused with bamboo). Rattan comes from the rattan palm.
